Methodology

To determine the most popular designer in each state, we first compiled a list of the top wedding dress designers of 2021 using references from sites like Bella Belle and Popsugar. We ended up with a total of 26 top designers. Using Google search data, we then looked at search volume by state for each designer to see which was most searched, which we took to mean most popular, for each state. The data we analyzed was from searches performed over the last 12 months, from October 2020 to October 2021. 

The Most Popular Wedding Dress Designer in Every U.S. State

The search data we analyzed included top searches for a variety of designers, including long-time industry favorites like Vera Wang, Pnina Tornai, and Hayley Paige. We also saw quite a few rising designers, like Markarian. You may be wondering which designer the style-centric state of New York searched most for. It’s the classic and always fashion-forward Stella McCartney, who surprisingly wasn’t the top search for any other state, despite being a well-known and loved designer. 

Mid- to high-range dress designer Justin Alexander was the most popular search in eight states, particularly southern states like Alabama, Tennessee, Georgia, and South Carolina. Other than that trend, there didn’t seem to be a favorite among any other region. Californians searching for designer wedding dresses sought out Galia Lahav. Connecticut went for Maggie Sotero. Texas was most interested in Watters, and Virginians most searched for Madison James. 

The Most Popular Wedding Dress Designer Overall

It’s no surprise that the queen, designer Vera Wang, topped the list as the most popular wedding dress designer across all U.S. states. Wang’s collections were the most searched for in Alaska, Arkansas, Delaware, Hawaii, Illinois, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, New Mexico, North Carolina, Oregon, Vermont, and Wisconsin. From her timelessness and sophistication to her pops of personality and intrigue, it’s no wonder Vera Wang’s gowns sparked the most search interest.
