It’s almost August, and that means it’s time for another deep dive on this month’s birthstone. Luckily for us, that means exploring the birthstone for August, beautiful green peridot – its history, meaning and all of our favorite styles to gift for August babies.

What is the August birthstone?

Emerald shaped Peridot and Diamond necklace and matching earrings.

While August actually has a few stones associated with it, the most popular August birthstone is peridot. This bright green gem forms deep inside the earth’s mantle and is brought to the surface by volcanoes, sometimes even being found in meteorites. Unlike many other gemstones, its color comes from the composition of the mineral itself, instead of impurities. For this reason, its shades can vary from bright lime green to brownish-green. The amount of iron present in the composition of the stone dictates the brightness of the gem’s color. Peridot is sometimes referred to as the “Evening Emerald” because its green hue looks beautiful any time of day.

With a 6.5-7 rating on the Mohs scale of hardness, raw peridot can be prone to cracking; however, the finished gemstone is easy to wear and quite strong.

History of peridot

Pliny the Elder was an ancient naturalist living during the years 23-79 A.D. He first recorded the existence of the stone on a small island off the coast of Egypt. These early gemstones came from deposits on a small volcanic island in the red sea called Topazios. For this reason, early peridot was sometimes confused with the gem topaz.

Ancient Egyptians called peridot the “gem of the sun” and believed it protected its wearers from terrors occurring during the night. After building in popularity among the Egyptians, peridot saw a revival in the 1990s when deposits producing very fine grades of the gem were discovered in Pakistan.

Today, peridot is mined across the world, including in the United States. Some of the places you can find this green gemstone include Arkansas, Arizona, Hawaii, Australia, Kenya, China, Myanmar, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and more. In fact, at the turn of the 20th century, geologists were stumbling upon so many samples of peridot that they came up with a theory that beneath the earth’s core there was an “olivine layer” of rock. However, this theory is yet to be substantiated.

Cluster style peridot ring and matching necklace.

Did you know?

Peridot is extremely popular among British royals. King Edward VII declared it his favorite gemstone, while Princess Kate, the Duchess of Cambridge, favors a pair of peridot, blue topaz and diamond earrings.

Spiritual associations

Peridot has long been associated with certain spiritual meanings. Early Christians actually considered this stone sacred, and Catholic bishops today still wear peridot and amethyst rings to symbolize purity. In other cultures, it’s associated with harmony, good health, restful sleep, peacefulness and compassion, as well as believed to free the mind of envious thoughts.

Priests believed it was connected to nature and used goblets covered in the stone to speak with nature gods. In Hawaii, peridot once symbolized the tears of Pele, the volcano goddess of fire who controlled the flow of lava. Some believe the name for the stone is rooted in the Greek word “peridona,” meaning “giving plenty,” which is why it is often associated with generosity as well.

Did you know?

Some historians believe Cleopatra’s famed emerald collection may have actually been peridot. Throughout medieval times, the two gems were often mistaken for one another, especially before the awareness of peridot began to grow.

Yellow gold ruby and diamond cluster necklace, ring and dangle earrings on white background.

As the summer begins to heat up, romantic ruby takes its place as the July birthstone. With a deep red color and a long and complicated history, these stones are steeped in tradition and beauty. Learn more about this gem and browse some of our most popular ruby birthstone jewelry on the Shane Co. blog.

What are rubies?

Rubies are the red variety of the mineral corundum, which you might recognize as the mineral sapphire is made of, too. In fact, all colored corundum is considered a sapphire except for this particular gem. This red stone gets its color from the element chromium, and when treated to extreme heat and pressure over millions of years, crystals are formed under the earth’s surface. The presence of silica or iron, two minerals that are extremely common within the earth’s crust, will prevent the formation of ruby, making them one of the rarest stones known to man. Scientists have said that it’s a “minor geological miracle” that they’re formed at all — we’re actually still unsure how the exact conditions are met.

Did you know?

Besides being our July birthstone and a beautiful choice for Valentine’s Day jewelry, ruby is also the stone for the 15th and 40th wedding anniversaries.

Ruby earrings and necklace with diamond accents

Gem qualities

Their formation is not the only thing that makes this special stone so unique. The chromium that gives rubies their red color can cause fluorescence, which causes them to appear to glow like a fire from the inside out. However, chromium can also cause cracks and fissures, so few grow large enough to crystallize into gem-quality stones — another reason why they’re so rare. Despite this, rubies are durable, rating a 9 on the Mohs scale of hardness, second only to diamond. This strength and fluorescence means the gem has uses beyond just jewelry; it’s also used to create watches, medical instruments and even lasers.

Myanmar (formerly Burma) is famous for its ruby deposits, producing deep red stones that are known as “Pigeon’s blood.” Other deposits exist in Vietnam, Thailand, East Africa, India, parts of the Middle East and even certain areas of the United States. Thailand is today’s main source and produces gems of a dark red shade.

Did you know?

The first ever laser was created in 1960 using the red fluorescence emitted by a ruby crystal.

Myths and symbolism

There are a variety of myths and legends associated with the ruby, particularly because of its unique red color. In the Orient, this stone was described as a “drop of the heart’s blood of Mother Earth,” while other ancient cultures believed that they grew on trees like fruit, starting off as small white stones and ripening in the sun to the red gem we know today. In the Middle Ages, these gems were viewed as a stone of prophecy, as well as having a number of purported health benefits. Ivan the Terrible of Russia stated that rubies were good for the heart, brain and memory, while in the 15th and 16th centuries, they were thought to counteract poison and restore youth and vitality.

Coupled with a strong association with the sun, the ruby is considered the stone of love, energy, passion and power, believed to restore vital life forces and increase energy and vigor in its wearers. Also known as the stone of courage, this gem is thought to preserve mental and physical health, making it a great choice for any special occasion.

Famous rubies

The Sunrise Ruby

This Burmese stone is the most expensive piece of ruby jewelry ever sold at auction, raking in close to $30 million. Weighing in at 25.29 carats, the ruby is named after a poem by Rumi and is said to have extraordinary color, purity and cut.

The DeLong Star Ruby

This gem was named after its owner, Edith Haggin DeLong, and uncovered in Burma during the 1930s. It was donated to the American Museum of Natural History in 1937, and later stolen in a notorious heist by J.R. Murphy in 1964. A massive ransom was paid by a wealthy businessman to get the DeLong Star Ruby back to its original home.

The Liberty Bell Ruby

Discovered in the 1950s in eastern Africa, this stone is the largest mined ruby known to man. It was sculpted to represent a miniature version of the Liberty Bell, with 50 diamonds also included in its design. It was stolen during a jewelry heist in 2014 and is unfortunately yet to be recovered.

The Burmese Ruby Tiara

When Queen Elizabeth married her husband, Philip, she received a number of spectacular-quality rubies from the people of Burma. In 1973, she commissioned Gerrard & Co. to create a tiara using 96 of the gems she received as a gift and named it for the Burmese people.

Ruby rings

Highlighting this gem’s unique color with a halo of diamonds adds a trendy and elegant touch to an already-beautiful ring. Try this Oval Double Halo Ring with 72 round diamonds to surround the loose ruby of your choice for superior sparkle.

Ruby necklaces

This versatile stone looks beautiful on its own or complemented by other gems, as in this Ruby and Diamond Pendant in high-quality 14k yellow gold. Created by our design team, this necklace offers sophisticated simplicity to show off your July birthstone.

Ruby earrings

If you’re looking for some old Hollywood glamour, these Vintage Ruby and Diamond Earrings were carefully crafted with 34 round diamonds and delicate details.

The post Top 5 Chains to Rock This Year appeared first on The Loupe.

There are so many choices when it comes to chain necklaces that it can be daunting — from styles to lengths to metal types — but we make it easy to find the perfect chain. Here are our top 5 picks for 2022 (and beyond, because these do not go out of style). We have a huge selection in a range of prices, so there’s really something for everyone.

One thing we love about chains is that they’re very unisex. You don’t really have to worry about chains for men or chains for women — we’re seeing men wear shorter chains traditionally for women, and women wearing thicker, heavier chains traditionally for men. You can really just wear what you want!

Chains are more popular than ever right now, and celebrities like Timotheé Chalamet, Brad Pitt, and Kanye West have been rocking the trend for a while. Female stars we see wearing chains include Kendall Jenner, Cardi B, and Reese Witherspoon, just to name just a few.

Without further ado, here are our top 5 favorite chains right now.

1. Miami Cuban Chain in 14k Yellow Gold

If you want a super high-quality, classic chain, this is your go-to. You can feel the weight of the real gold. It’s an investment you can wear.

2. Sterling Silver Figaro Necklace

This affordable silver chain is a more understated look you can wear every day.

3. Herringbone Necklace in Vermeil 14k Yellow Gold

We’re in love with this on-trend chain. It has a retro flair that makes us want to hit the disco (although the office will do). It’s really fun and surprisingly versatile. And because it’s made with vermeil (gold-plated silver), it won’t break the bank.

4. Curb Chain in 14k White Gold

If you want a high-quality gold chain but don’t want a lot of bling, 14k white gold is a great option.

5. Paper Clip Chain in Vermeil 14k Yellow Gold

Paper clip chains are the trend you’ve probably been hearing about lately. We love how you can wear this one backwards so the clasp is in the front — a huge trend we don’t see going anywhere anytime soon. Because this chain is vermeil (gold-plated silver), it’s more affordable.

Not sure how to wear chains? Here are just a few styling ideas!

 • Wear with a simple T-shirt for a dressed-down look.
 • Layer with other chains or pendants.
 • Mix and match with pearls for a classic yet on-trend look.
 • Dress up with a diamond pendant and wear for a night out.
 • Don’t forget other jewelry like bracelets, earrings, and rings. Chain bracelets are totally in style and perfect for wearing solo or layering. Stick to the same metal type, or break the rules and mix. Add in a gemstone ring for a pop of color.

Shop all our chains, and find one (or two!) perfect for you.

The post The Most Popular Candle Scent in Every U.S. State appeared first on The Loupe.

]]>

Did you know that wick candles originally burned a kind of animal fat called tallow instead of wax? Unlike wax candles, tallow candles produced a lot of smoke and a foul, acrid odor. Lucky for us, modern wax candles not only burn cleanly, but they also provide a wide array of pleasant scents that buyers get to choose from.

This got us thinking here at Shane Co.: Do different states prefer different scents? Which scent is the most popular across the country? We wanted to find out.

Methodology

To answer these burning questions, we first put together a list of 24 of the most popular candle scents, from pumpkin spice and lavender to cotton and tobacco. Next, we looked at the Google search data from November 2020 to November 2021 for each scent by state and took most searched to mean most popular. So without further ado, here is…

The Most Popular Candle Scent in Every U.S. State

Disclaimer: Alaska, Hawaii, Montana, North Dakota, South Dakota, Vermont, and Wyoming were not included as there was not enough search data for any of these states to declare a conclusive number one candle scent.

Regional trends were fairly scarce in this investigation, but there are a couple of notes. For starters, the South’s Arkansas, Mississippi, and West Virginia all searched for the fall staple, pumpkin, more than any other candle scent. There’s also the odd clump of West-meets-Midwest states (Colorado, Nebraska, and Kansas) that all had vanilla as their most searched candle scent. Then, if you’re willing to count two nearby states as enough to mark a trend, there’s also Wisconsin and Minnesota’s shared love of lavender, and Oregon and Nevada’s mutual decision to stop and smell the roses.

Outside of these, though, there was a lot of geographic spread among the more popular candle scents and also a lot of scents that won just one (or zero) states. For example, Pennsylvania was the only state to search for the cranberry candle scent the most, while New Jersey falls into the same boat, but with the cookie candle scent. Also, fun fact, Oklahoma was the only state to have a specific candle, not just a specific scent, take the number one spot.

The Most Popular Candle Scent Overall

It was a close race, but when everything was said and done, pumpkin edged out vanilla by a margin of just one state! After vanilla, there’s a huge drop-off to third place, where lavender, lemon, and rose all tied with three state wins each, then fourth place is another tie consisting of citrus, coconut, peppermint, and gardenia, which each won two states.

Some more single-state winners include maple in Kentucky, cedar in Iowa, cotton in Illinois, Fraser fir in Utah, mahogany teakwood in Georgia, balsam in New Hampshire, and tobacco in Michigan. And if you’re wondering which other scents made our list of 24, but didn’t win any states? Those are Champagne toast, pink sands, apple, eucalyptus, and cinnamon.

Closing Thoughts

We hope your favorite candle scent made the list, or even better, came in first in your state! While candles make for some of the most versatile gifts around, if you’re looking to spend a little more on someone special, be sure to visit our website for the most beautiful jewelry in any price range.

Happy birthday, November babies! It’s time for a deep dive on your beautiful birthstone: citrine. We love this bright stone for its unique color, durability and spiritual properties. Read on to find out more about this amazing gemstone.

What is citrine?

Citrine is a member of the quartz family, known for its particular yellow to orange color. Its name is derived from the citron fruit, a yellow variety similar to the lemon. Citrine is actually quite rare, especially in the lighter yellow color we sometimes see it in. It ranks a 7 on the Mohs scale of hardness, making it quite resilient and perfect for rings, necklaces, earrings and more. The different varieties of this unique gemstone are as follows:

 • Yellow quartz: citrine with a lemon yellow color
 • Golden citrine: citrine with a golden yellow color
 • Madeira citrine: brownish-red to orange-red citrine
 • Palmeria citrine: bright orange citrine

Did you know?

Citrine is sometimes referred to as “The Merchant Stone” because of its associations with prosperity and wealth. In days past, shopkeepers were known to keep the stone near their cash registers with the belief that the stone would help encourage positive financial growth.

History

Matching citrine earrings and pendant.

Citrine has a long and reverent history. It was used for jewelry in ancient Rome, as well as throughout the 19th century. Stars such as Joan Crawford and Greta Garbo popularized the stone during the Art Deco period, with large gemstones set in elaborate jewelry pieces. Currently, it’s often seen in large cuts and Cubist-inspired looks, for bold jewelry that stands out from the crowd.

Spiritual properties

Citrine is commonly associated with the circulatory system, purifying and cleansing as one wears it. It is believed to energize and invigorate the body, as well as inspire and offer optimism to its wearers. Its bright yellow color reflects its ability to awaken and expand the mind, stimulating intellect and mental activity and encouraging balance and positive thought.

Did you know?

Citrine is commonly associated with Demeter, the Greek goddess of harvest, and Sekhmet, the Egyptian goddess of war.

Caring for citrine

Citrine is light- and heat-sensitive, which means you should avoid exposing it to prolonged sunlight. If overheated, the color can fade and appear less bright than it once did. Situations that may scratch or otherwise damage the stone should be avoided, but its Mohs rating means it can still be worn as an everyday piece without much fear of injury. Use a combination of warm water and soap to clean your jewelry with a soft brush, then rinse thoroughly and dry afterwards.

Did you know?

Some Chinese legends dictate that citrine is “The Stone of Success” that should be given to generous owners only. It was treasured by ancient Chinese emperors for its intellectual broadening qualities and is still used by some Chinese students and professors today to promote success on exams and other schoolwork.

One of our favorite stones is taking center stage this month as September’s birthstone: blue sapphire! With a rating of 9 on the Mohs scale of hardness, this gem is second only to diamond in durability — and just as beautiful. Read on to learn more about this sparkling stone and shop our most popular September birthstone gifts.

What is sapphire?

Three loose sapphire stones.

As the gemstone variety of the mineral corundum, this stone is created much like other natural stones: with millions of years of pressure beneath the earth’s surface. Trace elements like iron, titanium, chromium, copper and magnesium give sapphires their unique colors. Though September is usually known for the rich blue variety, this superstar gem also comes in pink, green, yellow and many more colors. The only one missing is red — this color of corundum is known as ruby.

Did you know?

Some sapphires can create a starburst effect, also known as asterism, when you look closely. This is due to trapped inclusions that create a six-ray star pattern in the surface of the stone.

Sapphire’s history

This special stone has been mined since at least 800 B.C., probably earlier. While we don’t know the details surrounding the first discovery of sapphire, most historians guess that it was discovered in streams and riverbeds, where they have been washed away by erosion and many years of rain. With a long and storied history, this gem has always been prized for its rich blue hue and sparkling exterior.

Greeks wore them when they sought guidance from an oracle, while Buddhists believed the stone brought spiritual enlightenment. Hindus also used it during worship, and the ancient Hebrews at one time believed the Ten Commandments had been carved into tablets made of sapphire, though the references in the Bible may also have been referring to another blue stone — lapis lazuli.

Did you know?

Because of its extreme durability, this stone is also used in industrial application. The Apple Watch has a screen made of sapphire glass, while other electronics and similar products make use of its hardness.

Royal origins

This vibrant blue stone is well known for being popular among royals and has been the stone of choice for some famous engagement rings. In 1796, French emperor Napoleon Bonaparte proposed to his wife-to-be Josephine with a sapphire engagement ring. Featuring a pear-shaped sapphire and diamond on a simple gold band, the ring later sold at auction for close to a million dollars.

Britain’s Prince Charles also famously gifted Lady Diana Spencer with a 12-carat sapphire engagement ring, becoming one of the most recognizable rings we know of. In 2010, Prince William proposed to Kate Middleton with this same ring.

Did you know?

According to a well-known legend, Helen of Troy owned a blue star sapphire that held the key to her unmatched desirability — she apparently had at least 30 suitors looking to wed! It’s possible that the face that launched a thousand ships actually owed it all to our favorite September birthstone.

Other famous gems

Collection of sapphire and diamond necklaces.

One of the most famous (and biggest) sapphires ever discovered is the Star of India. At an incredible 563 carats, this star sapphire was found in Sri Lanka. After discovery, George Frederick Kunz procured it for John Pierpont Morgan to be displayed at the 1900 Paris Exposition. It was later donated to the Museum of Natural History, where it remains — though it was stolen in October 1964 before being returned in January of 1965.

The Rockefeller Sapphire is an internally flawless blue stone weighing 62.02 carats, getting its name from one-time owner John D. Rockefeller Jr. The famous Rockefeller purchased the stone from an Indian maharajah in 1934.

The Logan Sapphire was mined in Sri Lanka during the 1900s before being purchased by Colonel M. Robert Guggenheim as a gift for his wife, Rebecca, in 1952. She ended up donating the stone to the Smithsonian. It received the name “Logan” after Rebecca’s new surname. This stone weighs in at 422.99 carats and is the largest set gem in the National Gem Collection.

Spiritual and mystical properties

Also known as the “stone of wisdom,” sapphire is believed to release mental tension, unwanted thoughts and spiritual confusion, restoring balance within the body and mind. It is believed that wearers of this gem are better able to focus, maintain self-discipline and channel higher powers. The deep blue color of the stone once symbolized heaven, attracting divine favor and wise judgement.

Wedding Band Stack

Without a wedding band, your engagement ring just doesn’t make the same impression. But choosing just one band can often be difficult – which is why we offer women’s wedding bands in the widest variety of styles, so you can mix and match to create a stylish stack that you can wear year-round. Here’s how to get in on this trend.

Step one: Experiment with metals

Just because your engagement ring is white gold doesn’t mean your wedding band has to be too. In fact, mixing it up with different colored metals is a great way to create contrast and draw the eye to your sparkling ring finger. Choose from platinum, white, yellow and our signature shade of rose gold to add in an element of playfulness or match perfectly with your ring. Here’s some of our favorites:

Platinum Comfort Fit Wedding Band

It’s true: simplicity really can’t be beat. This Platinum Comfort Fit Wedding Band is crafted from high-quality platinum for the perfect starter to your stack.

Knife Edge Wedding Band in 14k Yellow Gold

This Knife Edge Wedding Band shines bright in 14k Yellow Gold. It’s a classic style with the on-trend twist of the outward edge, and will look great stacked with other, more intricate designs.

14k Rose Gold Wedding Band

This slim 14k Rose Gold Wedding Band is only 1mm wide, making it just right to add depth to a ring stack. The unique blush tone adds a hint of romanticism to an already gorgeous favorite.

Vintage Wedding Band with Milgrain Detail

Want something a little different? This Vintage Wedding Band with delicate beaded milgrain detail adds a touch of elegance to a stunning silhouette.

Step two: Add some sparkle

Of course, a ring stack wouldn’t be complete without a little sparkle – this is pretty much a rule at Shane Co. The trick is to find a variety of styles that will add some extra oomph to your look without out-shining your engagement ring.

Classic Pave-Set Diamond Wedding Band in 14k Rose Gold

This Classic Pavé-Set Diamond Wedding Band in 14k Rose Gold holds nineteen round diamonds, offering the best in elegance and radiance.

Diamond Cluster Wedding Band

If you love yellow gold, this Diamond Cluster Wedding Band is just the thing. We love the contemporary style elements paired with graduated diamonds for a modern look.

Round Diamond Band in 14k White Gold

Sometimes, bigger really is better. Especially when we’re talking about this Round Diamond Band in 14k White Gold. 11 diamonds totaling to 1.11 carats make a splash with this sparkly stunner.

Vintage Round Diamond Wedding Band

Add a vintage flair with this Vintage Round Diamond Wedding Band in everlasting platinum. Gorgeous diamonds + milgrain details = the perfect ring, in our experienced, biased opinion.

Step three: Experiment with shape

Adding some curves and textural elements to your wedding band stack is a stylish way to draw the focus to each individual ring. We love the look of a contour mixed with straight bands and, of course, your lovely engagement ring.

Tiara Round Diamond Contour Wedding Band

This Tiara Round Diamond Contour Wedding Band plays double duty with a unique swirl and contour look, mimicking the image of a crown.

Contoured Diamond Wedding Band in 14k Rose Gold

Looking for a band that perfectly cradles your engagement ring? We love the look of this Contoured Diamond Wedding Band in 14k Rose Gold!

Baguette and Round Diamond Contour Wedding Band in 14k Yellow Gold

With baguette diamonds currently trending, this Baguette and Round Diamond Contour Wedding Band in 14k Yellow Gold is a no-brainer. Sparkle, please?

Vintage Diamond Contour Wedding Band in Platinum

This Vintage Diamond Contour Wedding Band in Platinum is perfect to finish off your ring stack in style. Along with 12 round diamonds, the contoured shape layers beautifully with other rings.

St. Patrick’s Day is coming up, and that means an excuse to wear one of our favorite colors: green! Are you curious about the origins of some of these famous St. Patrick’s Day trends? Read on to learn more.

Why we wear green on St. Patrick’s Day

Legend has it that St. Patrick used a green three-leafed shamrock to explain the Holy Trinity to his pagan friends. While this story has never been fully confirmed, another tale in Irish mythology confirms the relationship of green to Ireland’s history.

In this story, Goidel Glas, creator of the Gaelic languages, is bitten by a snake and saved by Moses placing his staff on the snakebite. A green mark remained on him, helping him to lead his people to a land free of snakes (and, they thought, danger). In fact, the anglicized word “Gaelic” is actually the Irish word for green.

From then on, green ribbons and shamrocks were worn on St. Patrick’s Day, dating back to at least the 1680s.

The history of the Claddagh

Another commonly seen Irish tradition is the popular Claddagh ring. This piece of jewelry contains a heart with a crown being held by two hands, with each of these symbols representing something different. The hands represent friendship, with the heart signifying love and the crown being associated with loyalty.

This unique ring is thought to have originated in the small fishing village of Claddagh in Galway, Ireland. Legend says that Richard Joyce, a silversmith, was captured and enslaved while on a passage to the West Indies and sold to a goldsmith, where he then learned the art. When he was finally released and returned, he brought with him a ring he had fashioned while enslaved and gave it to his sweetheart. In fact, his initials are carved into one of the earliest known Claddagh rings.

With the new decade upon us, the trendsetting team at Shane Co. is anticipating which engagement ring trends you’ll be seeing everywhere this year. Check it out!

1. Geometric Shapes

We predict Art Deco will make a comeback in 2020 — but with a modern twist. Geometric diamonds like baguette and emerald cuts will be go-tos for our new brides, with their sleek, regal look pairing well with both solitaire and vintage settings.

These diamond shapes are great for the bride who is both on-trend and classic, just like celebrity icons Jennifer Lawrence and Jennifer Lopez, who both rock emerald cut stones. Emerald cuts will be particularly popular for center stones, with baguettes reigning for accents in engagement ring settings as well as in wedding bands. Here are a few of our favorite examples of this upcoming trend:

Baguette Diamond Three-Stone Engagement Ring

Baguette and Diamond Classic Engagement Ring

2. Yellow Gold

Brides have officially moved away from white gold, embracing the more timeless look of yellow gold engagement rings.

We predict that in 2020, Hailey Bieber and Meghan Markle will no longer stand out for their classic yellow gold engagement rings. The on-trend metal is most often seen in solitaire settings, which became a popular style in 2019.

Brides also love yellow gold for its versatility, as it allows them to be more flexible in choosing their diamond based on color. With a yellow gold setting, having a more yellow diamond is much less noticeable. Take a look at the gorgeous yellow gold settings below for inspiration.

3. Sapphires

As we’ve seen in the past few years, brides are increasingly looking for ways to make their engagement rings more personalized and unique to stand out among their friends.

Choosing a colored stone for your center stone allows you to create a unique, personalized look without losing that engagement ring “feel.”

Sapphires in particular are a perfect alternative to diamonds, as their hardness makes them durable for everyday wear. While the traditional blue sapphire worn by Kate Middleton remains the most popular engagement ring shade, sapphires come in every color of the rainbow, and we expect brides to branch out to even more shades in 2020. The blingy sapphire engagement rings below may just change your mind about this sometimes looked-over trend.

Sapphire Halo Engagement Ring
Pear-Shape Halo Diamond Engagement Ring

4. Floral Halos

This year, we expect to see a resurgence of floral, Victorian-inspired engagement rings, thanks to their popularity with celebrity trendsetters.

Princess Eugenie, Lady Gaga, Elizabeth Olsen, Katy Perry, and Irina Shayk all stepped out with this style of ring in 2019 and we anticipate that the trend will only grow in 2020.

A simple band paired with a floral-inspired halo gives the ring a unique, feminine look without losing the vintage feel of the halo. We most often see this style paired with a brightly colored sapphire rather than a traditional diamond. View our favorites below.

Floral Inspired Blue Sapphire Halo Engagement Ring
Sapphire and Diamond Floral Halo in 14k White Gold
Pink Sapphire Floral Engagement Ring
Pink Sapphire and Diamond Star Halo Engagement Ring in 14k White Gold

5. Unique Solitaires

With classic solitaire engagement rings seeing a rise in popularity over the last two years, we don’t anticipate this changing much in 2020. What we do foresee is couples looking for more unique solitaire rings. Subtle accents like under-halos and east-west settings have become increasingly popular, as they stick to a classic look that puts the focus on the diamond but also adds a bit of personality. Here are some examples:

East-West Set Rose Gold Solitaire Engagement Ring
East-West Solitaire Engagement Ring
Cathedral Embellished Solitaire Diamond Engagement Ring

Happy 2020 from your friends in the jewelry business, and keep an eye on ShaneCo.com for more gorgeous trendsetting engagement rings!

So much of fashion revolves around trends. Whether it’s the latest tech accessory or the newest style of engagement ring, we like to keep up with popular trends here at Shane Co. One of the most popular trends in the wedding industry, of course, is wedding dress styles.

From the ornate ball gowns of the 1950s to the absurdly puffy sleeves of the 1980s, wedding gowns have always mirrored popular fashion trends, and brides often look to celebrity wedding gowns for inspiration. This got us wondering — what are the most popular wedding dress styles of today? Do they vary from state to state? And what celebrity wedding dresses remain at the forefront of the industry?

To find out, we looked at Google Shopping data for various wedding dress styles in every state. We also looked at Google search volume for several iconic celebrity wedding dresses. The results show a complex, fascinating industry with particular regional styles. Read on to discover what we found!

The Most Popular Wedding Dress Styles in Every State

US map showing the most searched wedding dress style in every state

Said to have been made popular by Jackie Kennedy’s gown from 1952, the ball gown wedding dress style has remained the most popular wedding dress style in the United States. This style is the most popular in 13 states, including Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Kansas and Arizona. As you can see on the map, this style is particularly popular with states in the central part of the U.S.

The second-most popular wedding dress style in the U.S. is the princess style, which flaunts an undefined waistline. This is popular in states such as Texas, Florida and Oregon. Other regional trends include long-sleeve wedding dresses in northern states like Montana, North Dakota and South Dakota, and short-sleeve wedding dresses in western states like Colorado and Utah.

The Most Searched Wedding Dress Style in Every Region

US map showing the most searched wedding dress style per region

Speaking of regional trends, we broke down our results into major regions in the U.S. in order to determine if there are significant distinctions. As it turns out, the ball gown is the most popular in the Midwest and the South. The A-line-style dress, which is described as a “tamed-down version of the ball gown,” is particularly popular in the Northeast, which proves just how popular the ball gown style really is overall.

However, there is a significant variation in the most popular styles in the West. Five styles of dress — A-line, ball gown, asymmetrical, princess and short sleeve — are equally popular in terms of search volume.

Bar chart showing the most searched wedding dress style in every state

Here you can see the breakdown of each wedding dress style in terms of popularity, based on the count of states with the most search volume for that specific style. It makes us wonder what new trends might be on the horizon in the new decade!

Next, we broke down each state’s most searched celebrity wedding dress style. Which celebrity gowns are Americans searching for the most?

The Most Searched Celebrity Wedding Dress in Every State

US map showing the most searched celebrity wedding dress in every state

Surprisingly, based on our above data, Jackie Kennedy didn’t make the cut. The most popular celebrity wedding dress in the United States was Marilyn Monroe’s. This makes sense to us, as the blonde bombshell was married three times, with three different dresses, and all of them are nothing short of iconic. Residents of states like North Carolina, Connecticut, Wisconsin, Missouri and more are calling up her dresses on Google, perhaps for inspiration for their own gowns.

Some runners-up for the most searched celebrity wedding dress in every state are Celine Dion (most popular in states like Utah, Minnesota and South Carolina) and Pippa Middleton (most popular in Hawaii, Kansas, South Dakota and Vermont). Royals made the list, including Princess Diana and Meghan Markle, and so did celebrity influencers, including Chrissy Teigen and Kim Kardashian.

What about when we break it down by region?

The Most Searched Celebrity Wedding Dress in Every Region

US map showing the most searched celebrity wedding dress per region

As you can see, Marilyn Monroe’s wedding attire dominates the list in every region except the Northeast, which is tied for a whopping nine most popular celebrity dresses. These include Angelina Jolie, Audrey Hepburn, Jennifer Lopez, Kate Moss, Lauren Conrad, Marilyn Monroe, Pippa Middleton, Priyanka Chopra and Victoria Beckham. Clearly, the Northeast likes to grab fashion inspiration from a wide variety of places!

Bar chart showing the most searched celebrity wedding dress in every state

Finally, here is a breakdown of the most popular celebrity wedding dresses in the U.S., based on the concentration of states searching for them the most. We were certainly interested to see that more Americans were searching for Pippa Middleton’s dress than Kate’s, though Pippa did get married much more recently than Kate!

That wraps up our analysis of the most popular wedding dress styles in every state. Are you surprised by any of the results? Does your wedding dress style fit into any of these categories, or do you have another celebrity wedding dress you love? We’d love to hear your thoughts! There’s no doubt about it: Everyone loves a statement piece. But if you’ve ever been confused after hearing the term “cocktail ring,” don’t worry — we’re here to help.

What is a cocktail ring?

This standout piece of jewelry usually contains a larger-than-average focal point, such as a gemstone, with unique colors and shapes that create a statement look. They can be worn on any finger, though usually not the one reserved for an engagement or wedding ring. In their original incarnation, cocktail rings featured large center stones that were surrounded by accent gems, though this traditional definition has grown to include other styles over the years.

Why is it called a cocktail ring?

The history of the cocktail ring goes all the way back to the prohibition era of the 1920s. When alcohol was banned, illegal cocktail parties became the norm. This was also a period of social change, when women were beginning to enjoy greater freedom. Translated into fashion, this meant short skirts, short hair, flapper styles and greater spending power for females. The appearance of “gaudy” statement pieces and Art Deco jewelry was a way of expressing one’s personal style that was previously frowned upon. And with so many parties and events to attend, no one needed an excuse to show off their favorite pieces!

Are cocktail rings expensive?

Though prices can vary greatly in terms of the types of cocktail rings available, generally speaking, lower-priced gemstones are often used to great effect in today’s ring styles. This gives customers the opportunity to showcase oversized, colorful gems without the hefty price tag that can come along with diamond statement jewelry. As always, price also depends on the quality of materials being used — though it may cost a little more to use a high-quality gold, silver, or platinum, there’s less chance of unpleasant skin reactions and a greater chance of your ring lasting for years to come.

Our favorite styles

Shane Co. has a wide selection of stylish cocktail rings, with more being added all the time. Try out some of our favorite styles below.

We all love the look of sparkly ring stack – but it can be tricky to create the perfect one. Luckily, your friend in the jewelry business is here to help.

Engagement ring stacks

Sure, one diamond ring is gorgeous…but two is always better than one. Adding a band to your engagement ring and wedding stack can create a stand-out look that allows you to add some extra bling to your ring finger. Plus, a new band to stack is a great anniversary or birthday gift (psst – you can drop a hint on your favorite styles on ShaneCo.com!).

To create an Instagram-worth engagement ring stack, try pairing different but similar metals with different styles of rings. Check out the videos below for examples.

For our white gold stack, we paired this stunning Vintage Knife Edge Solitaire Ring featuring an emerald-cut diamond with this Baguette & Round Diamond Wedding Band and this Pavé-Set Diamond Wedding Band in 14k White Gold. The result? Sparkling, modern designs that create a cohesive look.

For our rose gold stack, we chose this stunning Solitaire Engagement Ring with an oval diamond center stone, paired with this Classic Pavé-Set Diamond Wedding Band and this Vintage Diamond Wedding Band. This creates a unique vintage-inspired stack in our signature shade of blush-toned rose gold.

Right-hand ring stacks

Of course, you don’t need to be rocking an engagement ring to pull off a sophisticated stack. The trick to pairing up right-hand rings? Get creative! Mix and match metals, styles, heights and more to create something totally original. The more contrast you can create, the more interesting the ring stack will appear on your finger.

For this stack, we paired a Diamond Cluster Wedding Band in 14k Yellow Gold with this Round Diamond Band in 14k White Gold, a Pavé-Set Baguette Diamond Wedding Band and this Oval & Round Diamond Cluster Band in 14k Rose Gold.

For a more delicate stack, try this: pair our Diamond Criss-Cross Wedding Band with this Vintage Wedding Band, this Diamond Wedding Band in Rose Gold with Pave Setting and that gorgeous Pavé-Set Baguette Diamond Wedding Band.

Multi-finger stacks

Want to add allure by wearing your rings on a few fingers? Create this contemporary look by pairing thin, similar rings in different sizes according to how you wish to wear them.

To recreate this look, pair our 14k Yellow Gold Wedding Band with this 14k Rose Gold Wedding Band. You can also stack a band with some diamonds to add a little more sparkle.

Want to try out this trend? Send your ring stacks to socialshane@gmail.com or message us on Facebook or Instagram to see if your look will be featured on our feed!

Rose gold and morganite necklace, bracelet and ring.

If you’ve spent any amount of time on social media the past few years, you’ve probably seen rose gold jewelry begin to fill up your feed. This unique look comes in a variety of hues, including Shane Co.’s very own signature shade. Besides looking beautiful paired with other metals, this metal has also grown in popularity because of its ability to perfectly complement every person’s skin tone. This makes it perfect for everything from a show-stopping rose gold engagement ring to fashionable rose gold earrings.

What is rose gold?

But what exactly is this popular shade made of? And how does it get its trendy pinkish hue? Well, rose gold actually contains a combination of metals, including yellow gold, silver and copper. This mixture allows the rosy hues to shine through perfectly. The additions of silver and copper to gold are called “alloys.”

Besides creating a gorgeous color, alloys are added to gold because 100% gold jewelry would be too soft and flexible to withstand everyday wear. Adding stronger metals allows your piece to last longer and ultimately shine brighter. In fact, the addition of copper actually makes it one of the most durable varieties around.

Trends in history

The first appearance of rose gold is attributed to well-known jeweler Carl Fabergé, who began incorporating the shade into his infamous Fabergé eggs. The metal was originally known as “Russian gold,” before being renamed after gaining popularity in other areas of the world. Victorian jewelers began replicating the look before it fell out of favor around 1910, overtaken by platinum and white gold trends.

With the onset of WWII, platinum became expensive due to its use in military applications. For this reason, rose gold jewelry grew in popularity once again and has continued its rise to the top in recent years.

Style tips

Rose gold ring stack.

Need help figuring out how to wear this elegant trend? Here are a few suggestions on how to incorporate rose gold into your everyday staples.

 • Mix with other metals, like yellow and white gold.
 • Pair with blush or nude tones for a sophisticated monochromatic look.
 • Choose something simple for sleek, everyday wear — or go big with statement jewelry.
 • Couple with morganite gems for the perfect peachy piece.
 • Go with vintage styles to emphasize rose gold’s “antique” vibes and rich history.

Variety of colored sapphire engagement rings.

Did you know that if you went online today to compare the prices of a 1.00-carat round diamond to a sapphire of the same size, you’d end up spending nearly five times more for the diamond? Combined with the rising trend of colorful center stone engagement rings, it’s no wonder that brides-to-be are letting go of the age-old tradition of a diamond engagement ring, opting instead for budget-friendly alternatives.

“Our customers’ interest in colored stones is rapidly increasing,” says a Shane Co. jewelry expert. “Traditional blue, white and peach sapphires are three of our most requested-for engagement rings.”

A long journey to the perfect ring

Oval blue sapphire and diamond halo engagement ring.

According to popular wedding site The Knot, consumers are looking at 26 rings over a period of 3.5 months throughout their engagement ring shopping journey. And according to Shane Co. stores, at least part of the reason they’re doing so is because they’re on the search for the largest diamond they can afford within their budget.

“We can thank celebrities and royals like Princess Eugenie, Lady Gaga and Gwyneth Paltrow for starting this trend and giving women the confidence to consider colored center stones for their engagement rings,” says our expert. “But it’s the price and rarity of these stones that truly closes the deal.”

Durable and beautiful

Much like diamonds, sapphires make great options for engagement rings because of their hardness and ability to withstand daily wear. They also come in every fancy shape from oval to emerald, making them easily accessorized with a unique setting.

Alternatively, semiprecious gemstones, like aquamarine or emerald, don’t function as well in engagement rings because of their relative softness and low rating on the Mohs scale of hardness. This means they are more prone to damage and better suited to fashion jewelry like pendants.

Customer testimony

Woman wearing blue sapphire engagement ring.

Don’t just take our word for it — our customers absolutely love the unique look that goes along with sapphire center stones.

Bonnie Olian, who was engaged in 2017 and married in 2018, recently traded in her diamond for a 2.00-carat colored sapphire.

“I loved my engagement ring — but I really envied the look of a larger center stone,” says Olian.

“Since Shane Co. opened over 40 years ago, diamonds have been and always will be our No. 1 seller for engagement rings,” Davis comments. “But we love how much fun these new brides are having with playing with color and sapphires as a modern twist for their rings.”

Celebrity inspiration

Here are some of our favorite engagement rings celebrities are rocking today:

 • Princess Eugenie’s ring shows off a rare padparadscha sapphire, complete with a gorgeous halo of diamonds surrounding the oval stone.
 • Lady Gaga favors a beautiful sapphire engagement ring in a fun floral-inspired halo design. Her 6.00-7.00-carat bright pink sapphire certainly turns heads!
 • We’ve probably all fawned over Kate Middleton’s stunning blue sapphire ring. By wearing another popular halo, Kate stays on trend while evoking past traditions — the ring originally belonged to Princess Diana.
 • Gwyneth Paltrow’s bling-tastic traditional blue sapphire engagement ring features a diamond-studded band that highlights her show-stopping stone.
 • Penelope Cruz sports a vintage-inspired 3.00-carat blue sapphire ring framed by a flower-shaped halo of diamonds.

To find the perfect sapphire for your engagement ring, visit ShaneCo.com and start creating your dream ring when you shop by stone. You can also start by picking out your favorite setting and completing it with the sapphire, ruby or diamond of your choice. Who says techy can’t be fashionable? If you love wearing your AirPods wherever you go, it can be difficult to figure out the best way to make sure your accessories groove with your technology. So we met with our designers and tried out nearly every earring style there is. Read on for our beautiful conclusions!

Thin hoops

Woman wearing gold hoops with airPods.

Thinner hoops can work wonderfully with AirPods because they can be easily maneuvered to the side. We don’t recommend a bulkier hoop because they can end up making an annoying clicking sound that we’re sure you won’t want to listen to. Something small and thin works better and has the added bonus of looking super chic.

Dangles

If you simply can’t live without a statement earring, go with a dangle that hangs down from your ear off a French, fish or leverback hook. Your AirPods should be able to rest on top easily or push the earring aside without any potential damage.

Threaders were by far our top choice for AirPod pairing. Why? They’re thin, they don’t have posts, and they hang beautifully alongside your earbuds. We also had no fear of losing our AirPods because of accidental interaction with our jewelry.

Rose gold threader earrings.

Get the look with these Threader Earrings in 14k Rose Gold, priced at $95. Also available in yellow and white gold.

Tip: Avoid studs at all cost, unless they’re in a second or third hole. They don’t work with the AirPod dynamic – there’s a chance the stud will push your earbud forward and you could end up losing your favorite piece of tech.

Other ideas for AirPod jewelry

Baguette diamond engagement ring.

If you’ve been paying attention to all the latest fashion trends, you’ve probably seen baguette stones pop up on a pretty regular basis. In engagement rings, they complement an emerald cut center stone beautifully. With a clean and modern look, these stones make an impact whether they’re set east-west or north-south. Because of their unique facets, the quality of baguette stones must be higher in order to create a cohesive style, giving baguette bands an incredibly sparkly and elegant appearance.

The history of baguettes

The baguette stone gained popularity during the early 1900s throughout the Art Deco period, largely because of its geometric, symmetrical shape, which was extremely fashionable at the time. In this era, fine jewelry largely disobeyed conventional norms, instead leaning toward diamond shapes and metals that weren’t just the more traditional round diamond set in platinum that was popular years earlier.

Two of the most famous baguette rings in history were worn by style icons Audrey Hepburn and Marilyn Monroe in the early 1950s. Not only did they break the convention of a traditional engagement ring, but their baguette rings began to shape a new culture of unique, personalized wedding jewelry.

Emerald + baguette = a match made in heaven

Since the introduction of these uniquely shaped stones, they tend to be seen alongside each other because of their similar appearances. From a distance, one can even mistake an emerald cut for a baguette — the main difference is that while emerald cut diamonds feature polished corners, baguettes feature more angular ones. Emerald diamonds also tend to come in larger sizes than baguettes.

These diamonds are popular with celebrities because of their exquisite shape, but they are also known for the way in which they show flaws — both in clarity and color. Because of their stepped faceting, emerald cut diamonds show inclusions and yellow coloring to the naked eye much more clearly than other cuts. In order to have a great-quality emerald cut diamond, it needs to be nearly flawless, meaning graded between a VVS1/2 and F-D, thus making it more expensive for a larger carat size.

Today’s glamour

Woman wearing stacked baguette wedding bands.

The steadily maintained trend of classic, dainty engagement rings can absolutely be attributed to the rise in popularity of baguette wedding bands. They pair especially well with stones that are similarly faceted, such as asscher, radiant and emerald cut diamonds. Because alternative diamond shapes have been steadily rising in popularity, this style is especially relevant for a vintage-style look that fits into all the latest trends.

How are brides wearing their bands?

Rather than choosing an engagement ring that speaks to their personal style, on-trend brides have begun choosing simpler engagement rings and showing off with a unique wedding band. Historically, baguette bands were only shown in white gold, but with rose gold and yellow gold growing in popularity, customers are loving the new modern appeal of these combinations. Brides are wearing their baguette bands both as a single wedding band and styled with vintage and classic pavé bands in a stylish stack.

Yellow Gold Floral Diamond Cluster Engagement Ring

Looking for affordable engagement ring options? You’re not alone. A recent survey conducted by TD Ameritrade revealed that younger Americans don’t think engagement rings should cost more than $3,000. At the same time, high-end fashion trends seem to be at an all-time high, popularizing expensive inspiration that may not be giving you the most bang for your buck. Cluster engagement rings may be the style we’ve all been waiting for.

As more millennials are considering taking the next big step (with smaller budgets), we can expect them to be on the search for nontraditional looks that offer a more reasonable price range but still give that classic “wow” factor. Luckily, there are now innovative engagement ring styles available that offer budget-friendly options for a standout ring.

Cluster engagement rings

Cluster engagement rings offer a big-sparkle look without the hefty price tag. Made up of a collection of smaller gems that come together to create the appearance of a bigger diamond, these rings are the perfect alternative to pricey center stones, if you’re open to a more contemporary style.

Trendy and modern

Besides offering a lower price point, cluster engagement rings have been growing in popularity over the years — even some of our favorite celebrities have been seen sporting this distinctive style:

Katy Perry showed off her engagement ring from fiancé Orlando Bloom in February, featuring a unique flower design highlighting a bright red ruby.

In her previous engagement, Scarlett Johansson wore an Art Deco-inspired cluster engagement ring that offered just the right amount of bling.

Christina Applegate combined her wedding and engagement ring for a cluster ring style worthy of an encore (or two).

Exclusive designs

Want to try out this distinctive style for yourself? Here are some of our favorites:

Rose Gold Pear Shaped Cluster Diamond Engagement Ring.

This Pear-Shaped Cluster Diamond Ring comes in our signature shade of 14k rose gold, giving it a unique and feminine look. With 12 round diamonds and a sweet pear-shaped design, this ring is a stunner for only $1,185.

Yellow Gold White Sapphire Cluster Engagement Ring.

If you’re not a fan of diamonds, our White Sapphire Cluster Ring in 14k Yellow Gold is a steal that offers superior sparkle. Twenty-one round white sapphires come together in this gorgeous cluster design paired with a classic yellow gold band. Shop now for only $680.

Triangle shaped blue sapphire and diamond cluster engagement ring.

For an added pop of color, this Traditional Blue Sapphire and Diamond Cluster Ring is elegant and sophisticated. Sixteen round blue sapphires surround 21 brilliant round diamonds for the ultimate bling — and at $577, you don’t have to worry about going over budget.

Floral style white gold diamond cluster engagement ring.

Featuring a unique floral-like design, this diamond ring shines brightly with a diamond-encrusted face and band highlighted by 14k white gold. Not to mention, this showstopper is available for just $2,570.

Rose Gold vintage style cluster engagement ring.

For more rose gold sparkle, this Diamond Floral Ring in 14k Rose Gold has vintage-inspired details complemented by an on-trend design. Fifty-seven round diamonds create gorgeous patterns encircling five larger diamonds, which act as the focal point. You can take this ring home for $1,497.

Other affordable options

If you’re looking for other ways to ensure you and your partner will stay on budget when choosing affordable engagement rings, it can be extremely beneficial to create your own engagement ring by picking out a center stone and setting separately. Doing this allows you to prioritize your budget based on what matters most to you. For example, you may decide to choose a simpler setting, such as a white gold solitaire, so that you have more money to spend on a bigger center stone. Or you may choose to opt for a sapphire or ruby rather than a diamond, which can cut down the price of your ring significantly.

Why shop Shane Co.?

Shane Co. makes it easy to customize your engagement ring in three easy steps: 1. Choose your favorite setting. 2. Choose the perfect center stone. 3. Personalize it with engraving and more! You can even shop by price online or speak with a member of our no-pressure, noncommission staff to figure out how to create your dream ring without breaking your budget. We also offer preset rings in every price range and all our favorite styles.

Because we buy our diamonds directly from the cutters, we are able to get rid of the middlemen and pass the savings on to you. As fourth-generation jewelers, we’ve developed long-standing relationships with our cutters and jewelry vendors, allowing us to get first pick of all newly cut stones. We optimize for quality and offer fair prices that give you the best value in the business.

If the hot weather and collection of beach-bound celebrity photos have us craving one thing this summer, it’s to hit the water in our favorite bikinis with layers of “beach jewelry” on!

But before jumping into the pool or slathering on the sunscreen, be sure to think carefully about the jewelry you’re wearing. While certain styles may not be suited to the wear and tear that comes along with ocean waves and sandcastles, it’s also important to beware of trendy and inexpensive jewelry claiming to be water-friendly. Some stones and metals fare much better than others in salt and chlorine.

Here are Shane Co.’s top tips for how to keep your jewelry safe this summer.

Woman holding her hand underwater while wearing engagement ring.

What not to wear

1. Plated jewelry

Plated jewelry — items that say “plated” or “gold plate” — is not made of solid metal and is susceptible to damage from water, sand and lotions. Pieces like these can leave you with the dreaded green stains on your skin, not to mention they’ll deteriorate rather quickly over the summer months. Instead, opt for karat gold or platinum jewelry.

2. Pearls

Combining timeless style with elegant sophistication, pearls are quickly becoming a popular trend. Unfortunately, these fashionable pieces do not mix well with chlorine or salt water. Not only can chlorine destroy the luster of your pearls, but pearls are typically strung on silk string, which can stretch out from water and chlorine exposure, causing it to eventually break.

3. Colored gemstones

Did you know sunlight can cause some gemstones like aquamarine and amethyst to fade? We recommend you avoid wearing all colored gemstones, semiprecious and precious, to the beach. Just like with harsh household chemicals, your stones face potential damage from the exposure.

4. Meteorite

Meteorite is iron-based, which means it has the potential to rust in water. To prevent any potential rust spots, we recommend taking off any meteorite rings or jewelry before taking a dive. Better safe than sorry!

5. Your engagement ring

Just don’t do it! Water causes your fingers to shrink, and far too many people lose their rings because of it. Avoid disaster altogether by leaving your most precious piece at home in a safe place.

What to wear

 • Sun-loving jewelry wearers know that earrings are always a sure bet. Besides avoiding tan lines, diamond studs or solid gold hoops are more secure than danglers or climbers and pack a big punch.
 • Swimsuits that plunge call for necklaces that draw attention to all the right places. Go for layers to create a big look without the weight of a heavier statement piece, or a dangle-style necklace to accentuate the cut of your top.
 • A few bangle bracelets are always a fun way to add some personality to your swimsuit. Just be sure they’re made of solid gold to avoid those nasty green lines. We definitely don’t recommend wearing a watch — unless it’s waterproof.

For more recommendations on beach style, read about our favorite bathing-suit-ready pieces here.

Woman cleaning pearls with a cloth.

How to clean your jewelry

 • Inspect your jewelry shortly after finishing up at the beach, checking for any scratches, stuck debris or other damage.
 • Use a damp cloth to gently wipe off your jewelry. This will ensure you’re getting rid of any sunscreen, sand or salt residue that could potentially damage your piece.
 • If you find that a basic wipe down doesn’t do the trick, try for a deeper clean using a cloth and some soapy water. Dry it off with another cloth before returning it to its resting spot.
 • Taking your jewelry to a professional cleaner after a trip or beach season is always a good idea. High-powered steam cleaners and a professional eye can help ensure your jewelry is showing its best face.
 • This helpful video will show you step-by-step how to clean your jewelry at home.
 • With Shane Co.’s Free Lifetime Warranty, your jewelry is protected — for free, for life. If your jewelry is somehow damaged during your trip, speak to a member of our noncommission staff to find out how it can be fixed.

We may not all have Hailey Bieber’s rock-star model abs, but we can definitely take tips from her on how to accessorize this summer with jewelry trends. Finding lightweight but durable pieces that look great even when lounging on the beach can be difficult, so occasionally we turn to celebrities for some glamorous inspiration. Here are 2019’s top three swimsuit jewelry trends so far:

Gold Hoops

Woman wearing thin gold hoops.

Like Hailey Bieber and Kendall Jenner, we love pairing delicate gold hoop earrings with our beach attire. This is a fun and classic look that draws the eye up to the face. Here’s a tip: “Ensure they are made of karat gold, otherwise they’ll tarnish when wet,” says a Shane Co. jewelry expert.

Want to rock gold hoop earrings like the ones Hailey wears? Try these 14k Yellow Gold Hoop Earrings for just the right amount of flair. Made with high-quality 14k gold, the secure latch backs will keep your earrings safe while you enjoy a day at the beach.

Choker Necklace

Yellow gold choker necklace.

The best way to avoid necklace tan-lines is to keep it as minimal as possible. “Like Kendall Jenner and Emrata, we suggest going with a gold choker necklace to add a bit of sparkle to your swimsuit,” says our expert. “This is also a piece you can layer with other pieces once you’re back in your sundress or shorts and tee.”

For a simple and elegant look that won’t leave you held down by weighty necklaces, Shane Co.’s 14k Yellow Gold Choker Necklace is perfect. The 16-inch cable chain features adjustable links for a one-size-fits-all match while the box chain detailing lets you embrace a personal, playful style.

Stacking Bracelets

Woman wearing stacked bracelets.

“Because you’re definitely not watching the time while you’re lounging ocean side, leave the watch at home and replace it with a few bangles,” says our expert. Sophia Richie and Kylie Jenner have both styled a bracelet stack in their swimsuits this year. “An engravable bangle is a fun way to add a personalized look, but you can also never go wrong with a solid gold bangle.”

Choose a few styles to mix and match for a unique look that stays fresh. Try layering this engravable 14k Yellow Gold Bar Bracelet with a 14k Yellow Gold Bangle Bracelet. Varying widths and styles will keep you on-trend and give you the option of wearing your pieces together or apart.

Options for every style and budget

Summer is here and that means vacation! Whether you’re planning a trip to the beach, an out-of-country escapade, or visiting friends and family in another state, it can be difficult to decide what to pack, especially when it comes to jewelry. You may not want to take your favorite pieces with you in case your luggage gets lost or you’re otherwise inconvenienced, but you want to bring a variety of looks in a limited amount of space. Sticking to a few simple guidelines can help to reduce packing stress and leave you with a fully accessorized wardrobe that’s ready for any vacation adventure.

Luckily, we’ve gathered up our favorite suggestions for travel jewelry pieces, with a variety of options to fit every occasion, style and budget. Let’s get started!

Necklaces

Woman wearing two small diamond pendant necklaces.

Tip: Pick pendants and delicate chains for a sophisticated casual look that can easily be transitioned for a dressier event by layering it with another piece.

This Three-Stone Diamond Necklace in White Gold is a great travel jewelry option that comes with an adjustable 18-inch chain and offers the perfect amount of sparkle without being too flashy. The three-stone pendant makes it unique while maintaining elements of classic style.

Yellow gold horn pendant necklace.

For a more modern look, try out this Horn Pendant in 14k Yellow Gold. The playful design is perfect for day or nighttime looks and comes on a 22-inch adjustable chain – great for layering with shorter necklaces.

An Engravable Disk Pendant in our signature shade of 14k rose gold (also available in white or yellow gold) is an affordable option for everyday wear. This piece can be engraved with your name or another message for extra personalization.

This Bezel-Set Diamond Necklace in 14k Rose Gold offers a touch of feminine style with four Bezel-set round diamonds and a sparkling rose gold chain. It can be adjusted to either 18- or 16-inches.

Earrings

Tip: With all the sightseeing, walking and traveling that goes along with vacation, stick to stud earrings or small hoops so your ears won’t be weighed down by the end of the day.

These 14k Yellow Gold Hoops offer trendy travel jewelry style without being too bulky. At 1 and ¾ inches in diameter and secured with latch backs, this design stands out with a t-shirt and jeans or perfectly completes a chic nighttime look.

Pearl and diamond stud earrings.

Akoya Pearl and Diamond Earrings are simple and elegant with a touch of sparkle. Cultured Akoya pearls look great with any color and thirty-two round diamonds will make these studs your favorite new travel piece.

For something unique, these Diamond Infinity 14k White Gold Hoops offer a fashionable design paired with classic taste.

Close up of woman wearing morganite stud earrings.

Morganite Stud Earrings with Diamond Accents are a stunning alternative to traditional diamond studs. Peachy-pink morganite will complement any skin tone, especially when paired with our signature shade of 14k rose gold.

Bracelets

Tip: Choose stackable styles that look great paired together or alone. Picking different colored metals will help to ensure you have the right fit for every outfit.

This Diamond Bangle Bracelet in 14k White Gold is a stand-out piece that can also complement other bangles. The seven Bezel-set diamonds add some sparkle while the high polish finish makes this design stand out.

For a contrasting style, try this 14k Rose Gold Bracelet for a great travel jewelry option. With a textured finish and a seamless push button clasp, you won’t want to leave home without it.

Woman wearing diamond tennis bracelet.

Want to look fancy without weighing down your wrist? This Petite Diamond Bracelet in 14k White Gold is simple, refined and made with 35 pavé-set brilliant round handpicked diamonds.

Wide yellow gold bangle bracelet.

This Wide Bangle Bracelet in 14k Yellow Gold features a secure button clasp and is made of thick, durable yellow gold for an understated look that’s never short on style.

Rings

Tip: If you’re worried about lost or stolen jewelry, it may be best to buy a travel ring or rings to replace your engagement and wedding bands while you’re on vacation. Here are some options that won’t leave you missing your usual pieces.

For sophisticated style, try this 14k Rose Gold Comfort Fit Wedding Band. At an affordable price point, this no-fuss band delivers sweet style in our signature shade of rose gold.

This Infinity Diamond Wedding Band in 14k Yellow Gold features sparkling pavé-set diamonds and a unique infinity design. It looks great alone or paired with other stackable rings.

A perfect gift is something that reflects a woman’s personal style. That’s why I’m thrilled about our holiday selection. We have spectacular gifts for every woman’s style, exclusive jewelry — in every price range — designed by our own team of designers. Our holiday gifts are beautifully boxed, ready to give and made to last a lifetime.

I selected three of my favorite gifts. Each one has a fashionable look and can be worn every day.

Diamond Circle Necklace

This is the ideal gift for the woman with a classic personal style who likes a vogue look. It’s a modern yet timeless circle necklace with a sleek design. The nine brilliant diamonds take it to another level with lots of eye-catching sparkle. This contemporary necklace, available in 14k white, yellow and

rose gold, can be layered with other jewelry, and worn with a formal outfit as well as a more casual look.

London Blue Topaz and
White Sapphire Necklace

This trend-forward necklace is a great gift for the woman who loves to wear color. The five white sapphires draw your eye to the center of attention — a large cushion cut London blue topaz. This stone has a rich, vibrant hue. We have this same style with other colorful gemstones, and we created earrings to match this popular necklace. All of our gemstones are natural — not lab-created — so your gift will have lasting value.

Diamond Floral Necklace

Floral-themed jewelry is trending, and this beautiful diamond necklace suits any woman with an elegant and feminine personal style. The four petals boast 61 brilliant diamonds. Complete the botanical-themed look with matching diamond floral earrings. With the unparalleled sparkle of our diamonds and the chic design of this necklace, this gift will be a win.

Rule #1 of traveling: Leave your valuables at home.

However, some of the most common items not left behind are engagement rings and wedding bands. For men and women alike, it’s more than likely that your rings fall onto your list of valuables, but they also tend to find their way onto the airplane with you.

We get it — why wouldn’t you want to wear your rings on vacation? Unless your rings are properly insured, the decision to take your rings on vacation can get a little nerve-racking.

So instead of risking it all, we’ve put together some affordable, yet still gorgeous, men’s and women’s wedding bands that won’t break the bank if they’re stolen or lost.

Perfectly simple and easy to wear, this oval white sapphire ring is a great option to temporarily take the place of your engagement ring. Crafted of quality 14k yellow gold, this ring is strong enough to withstand an adventure and safe enough to take along at a price of $225.

For those of you who still need a little bit of sparkle, this is the travel band for you. Featuring 19 round diamonds set in 14k white gold, this band will still make you feel like you have on your engagement ring without the worry.

This is the essential travel band. With no diamonds or gemstones, this 14k rose gold infinity band is your go-to travel accessory at the reasonable price of $165.

With each of these bands priced under $200, you can take one with you around the world and leave your wedding band at home. The strength of these wedding bands will compare to your original, all while backed by our Free Lifetime Warranty.

Our top 5 rings that Pinterest users can’t get enough of.

It’s easy to spend hours endlessly scrolling as Pinterest continues to load images of wedding dresses, DIY projects, crock-pot recipes and, most importantly, engagement rings.

However, in a sea of sparkle, some engagement rings rise to the top. Over the last month, our Pinterest followers have been saving these five rings repeatedly.

Do you see your perfect ring below?

According to a report released by Pinterest earlier this year, oval stones and vintage-inspired settings are being pinned faster than ever before.

At Shane Co., you can customize your engagement ring and make it exceptional. Our own in-house designers work with world-class designers and artisans to create styles unique to us, ensuring our customers a truly unique and personalized ring.

We also deliberately sell our stones separately from our settings, allowing you to choose the center stone that’s perfect for her style and your wallet. Whether it’s a sparkling diamond or a traditional blue sapphire, we offer a gorgeous variety of center stones.

It’s as easy as one, two, three: choose a setting, choose a stone, admire your masterpiece.
